TST Comment: For all you MOUNTAIN BICYCLE ENTHUSIASTS: The bicycles available for rent on Raiatea and Tahaa are basic road bicycles. There are some nice mountain biking roads on these islands, but the only way we know to find a bicycle suitable for enjoying them would be from the few locals who ride them.

Maybe asking around once you're here would be your best bet. Bringing your own mountain bike would be rather inconvenient, but possible... You'd definately be loving it once you got to your island.
